TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR OWN APPLIANCE

Here are some simple things you can try that may help resolve many common issues and get your appliance back up and running without requiring service.  Before you schedule a service appointment, you might first:

  • Be sure the appliance is plugged in and (if it has an On/Off switch) it is turned ON. Check all dials/control settings.
  • Check electrical power at the wall plug and check the breaker.
  • Inspect the power cord for damage.
  • For washers, dishwashers and refrigerator/freezers with ice and water dispensers, make sure water is reaching the appliance through the hose or pipe. Check for leaks.
  • For gas ranges/stoves, make sure gas is flowing to the appliance. Check hoses for leaks and kinks.
  • Make sure doors/lids are closed.
  • For washing machines that have stopped mid-cycle, redistribute the clothes.
  • If excessive suds form, add cold water to remove/reduce excess suds.
  • Clean all ducts, vents and traps.
  • Some appliances will only operate on a level and solid footing. Check and adjust the legs and/or clamps. Possibly relocate the appliance.
  • Review the manual.
  • Visit your manufacturer's web site for possible additional suggestions.
